January 2027 Flying Star Forecast: Study in the East, Gatherings in the Northeast

January's chart runs from 10:09 p.m. on January 5 to 9:46 a.m. on February 4, 2027 (UTC+8). It is the last month of the 2026 solar year, so the year's stars and afflictions hold until Li Chun at that same moment, when the February page takes over with the 2027 chart. Lunar New Year falls two days later, on February 6, so this year the solar calendar turns first.

January's biggest change is the 5 Yellow moving into the Southeast, which the chart had rated Favorable in four of the five months before. The year's 5 Yellow holds the South next door until Li Chun, and the Southwest beyond it carries two difficult stars, so the southern side of the chart is the side to leave alone.

The East, the central room, and the Northeast lead. The East is the month's room for learning, the Center for questions of who leads, and the Northeast for bringing people in. The North opens a Caution run that the chart carries into the summer.

January's chart is the same in every home. For your own building's chart, with the current year's stars laid over it, give the Flying Star calculator its facing direction and the year it was built or you moved in.

Annual disturbance directions for 2026

  • Tai Sui (Grand Duke) — 午 / S2: 172.5°–187.5°
  • Sui Po (Year Breaker) — 子 / N2: 352.5°–7.5°
  • San Sha (Three Killings) — 亥 (Northwest) / NW3: 322.5°–337.5°; 子 (North) / N2: 352.5°–7.5°; 丑 (Northeast) / NE1: 22.5°–37.5°

These mark cautions for optional drilling, digging, and demolition. Necessary safety work takes priority.

Where is each sector in my home or workplace?

Works and repairs. Work that opens walls, floors, or ground, and could be put off, stays out of five sectors this month. Four of those limits are year-long and end at Li Chun: the South (Tai Sui and the year's 5 Yellow), the North (Sui Po and San Sha), the Northeast (San Sha), and the Northwest (San Sha). The Southeast's (the month's 5 Yellow) covers January alone. From Li Chun, the 2027 limits fall on the Southwest (Tai Sui and San Sha), the Northeast (Sui Po), the West and Northwest (San Sha), and the North (the year's 5 Yellow). Everywhere, repairs that can't wait are the exception.

Southeast Caution

Period 8 (retiring) · Annual 9 · Monthly 5

  • This month: Use the Southeast only when you must, and quietly: the month's 5 Yellow is here.
  • Watch for: Health · Family & people

The month's 5 Yellow [五黄] makes the Southeast a room to leave be in January, and it does harm wherever it falls. The year's 9 Purple [九紫], a star of celebrations and recognition, offsets that in part, but not by enough to plan anything here.

Step in when you need something and step out again, and give the room no task of its own, since activity is what a 5 feeds on. Elective renovation that would cut into the Southeast's walls, floors, or ground is off the table this month; urgent repairs are not.

South Caution

Period 4 (untimely) · Annual 5 · Monthly 1

  • This month: Leave the South unused for the weeks left before Li Chun: the year's 5 Yellow is here until then.
  • Watch for: Health · Family & people

The South has been rated Caution in every month since at least June, and January is the last month of that run; the chart shows February as Favorable. What has held it down is the year's 5 Yellow, which leaves at Li Chun [立春] on February 4.

For the month, the South receives the 1 White [一白], a career star, but it comes in opposite its home [衝], which makes its lift lighter than usual. It gives no reason to start using the room now.

Tai Sui [太岁] (the Grand Duke) shares the sector with the 5 until Li Chun, and between them they keep optional structural work out, though a pressing repair is fine. For four more weeks, the best use of the South is none.

Southwest Caution

Period 6 (untimely) · Annual 7 · Monthly 3

  • This month: Keep the Southwest in good repair and give it nothing to do: two difficult stars share it.
  • Watch for: Conflict & lawsuits · Theft & loss · Injury & accidents

Arguments and losses come with the month's 3 Jade [三碧]. The year's 7 Red [七赤] is the bigger worry. The Southwest's Earth feeds it, so the 7's accidents, sharp words, and missing things come through stronger here than the star's nature alone would suggest.

That makes upkeep the useful work. A cable trailing across the floor, a shelf that wobbles, a drawer that won't close: these are worth fixing before they matter. A quiet, well-kept room makes trouble less likely, but it doesn't rule it out.

East Favorable

Period 7 (untimely) · Annual 8 · Monthly 4

  • This month: Use the East for learning something new and for the money work you've been putting off.

January is the East's one good month between December and the end of summer. The chart rates it Caution in December and again in February, and shows no other Favorable month here through August, so make the most of these four weeks.

The month's 4 Green [四绿] is the reason. It shares the East's Wood, which makes it stronger here, and study is its province: a month of evenings with the grammar of a language you've meant to pick up fits the room well.

The year's 8 White [八白] governs money and family. Give it the plain work of money, such as sorting a year of receipts or working out what you'll set aside in 2027.

Center Favorable

Period 9 (reigning) · Annual 1 · Monthly 6

  • This month: Hold the conversations that settle who leads in the central room, and do your ongoing work there.

This month the 6 White [六白] carries questions of authority into the central room, and the room's Earth makes the star stronger. If you're about to chair your first meeting as treasurer of a residents' association, prepare for it in this room.

The year's 1 stands for career, and it belongs to the work itself: polishing a portfolio before a round of interviews, or the long middle stretch of a project with no deadline in sight.

If you've been planning to freshen up a room, the central one is the traditional choice this month, since it holds no 5 Yellow and none of the year's afflictions.

West Mixed

Period 2 (growing) · Annual 3 · Monthly 8

  • This month: Use the West for money tasks you can finish and put away, and keep disputes out of it.
  • Watch for: Conflict & lawsuits · Theft & loss

The month's 8 gives the West something to do. Sitting down with a sibling to agree how the cost of a parent's care is shared is the kind of arrangement the room can hold this month.

The year's 3 is the other half of the picture, a star of quarrels and of things going missing. The West's Metal holds it back, so its quarrels and losses read lighter here. Put papers away when you finish instead of leaving them spread across a table, and take a disagreement somewhere else.

Northeast Favorable

Period 3 (untimely) · Annual 4 · Monthly 9

  • This month: Gather people in the Northeast this month, and keep a corner of it for writing.

This month the Northeast hosts the 9, the star of occasions worth gathering for. A small dinner after a friend's promotion fits here, or a rehearsal of the toast you'll give at a parent's seventieth. The 9 is the quickest of the stars to show itself, and what it brings tends to come in a cluster instead of by degrees. That describes the star's pace; it forecasts no result.

Repairs are fine here; structural renovation is not, because San Sha [三煞] (the Three Killings) has held the Northeast since last February. At Li Chun the Sui Po [岁破] (the Year Breaker) takes over the sector, and the limit runs on into 2027.

The year's 4 covers study, and in the Northeast that means writing: a long letter, or the next chapter of something you've been drafting for months.

North Caution

Period 5 (untimely) · Annual 6 · Monthly 2

  • This month: Let the North hold things rather than people this month, and keep your visits short.
  • Watch for: Health · Family & people

January opens a long Caution stretch for the North. The chart rates it Caution from this month through August at least, so the habits you set for the room now will serve for a while.

The month's 2 Black [二黑] carries illness in its symbolism; read that as a reminder to look after yourself, such as resting when you're run down, not as a medical claim. The year's 6 takes some of the edge off, not enough to change how the room is used.

Optional building work stays out under the Sui Po and the San Sha until Li Chun, and the 2027 5 Yellow takes over the North at that moment, so the restriction carries straight on; anything broken is mended first. Meanwhile, boxes, out-of-season clothes, and the things you keep for later can live here.

Northwest Caution

Period 1 (rising) · Annual 2 · Monthly 7

  • This month: Let the Northwest be a quiet bedroom or nothing at all this month: two inauspicious stars share it.
  • Watch for: Injury & accidents · Theft & loss · Health

The month's 7 sharpens tempers and edges. The year's 2 carries illness.

If the Northwest is a bedroom, sleep there as usual and keep it restful: no laptop in bed, no piles of laundry waiting by the door. A peaceful room makes these two less likely to stir, though it can't send them away.

Optional digging or demolition stays out of the Northwest under this year's San Sha, which holds the sector again in 2027. A repair is a different matter and goes ahead.

How to use this forecast

Use the good rooms, leave the cautious ones still. The classical texts treat activity as an amplifier: a good sector gives nothing until it is used, and a caution sector does no harm until it is disturbed. Where two caution stars share a sector, keeping it quiet lowers the risk without removing it. By the same logic, a busy room, at home or at work, with people, pets, and conversation, counts as use.

When a room can't move. A desk or a bed is not always easy to move. If yours sits in a Caution sector, keep it tidy and quiet, spend less time there where you can, and take the work that matters to a Favorable room.

Your own building's stars. This chart is the same for every home and workplace. Yours has its own stars, set by when it was built and which way it faces, and they decide where water, a stove, or a bed belongs.

The era. We are in Period 9 (2024–2043). Its reigning star is the 9 and its rising star the 1, which is why each sector's Period star carries a label such as reigning, rising, or retiring. The year's and month's stars on this page are read by their own natures, not by the period.

How to find each sector in your home or workplace
  1. Mark the middle of your whole floor plan. That area is the Center.
  2. Stand there with a compass, or a phone compass held away from metal and appliances, and find North.
  3. Each of the eight directions covers a 45° slice running out from the Center, 22.5° either side of its compass point.
  4. Note which rooms fall in each slice: bedrooms, desks, offices, the main door, the kitchen, a counter or till. Those are the rooms each sector section on this page is talking about.

The diagram uses the chart's orientation, South at the top. Tai Sui, Sui Po, and San Sha are narrower: Tai Sui and Sui Po each cover one 15° mountain, San Sha three, all listed under the chart at the top.

Treat the sector guidance as traditional planning symbolism. It does not replace medical, safety, legal, or financial advice, and urgent repairs or care should never be delayed for a symbolic timing preference.
